The UNSW – INSA Lyon International Laboratory is composed of researchers with expertise in machine health monitoring and wear analysis using multi-sensor technologies, advanced signal processing and intelligent systems. We develop unique solutions to complex technical challenges for our industry partners and share our experience with young researchers and engineers through training and supervision.
Our capabilities in the field include:
- Design of diagnostic system architectures (e.g., sensor choice and layout, data acquisition implementation)
- Signal processing for the extraction of features symptomatic of faulty components (e.g. bearing spalls, gear cracks and wear, rotor unbalance and misalignment)
- Automatic detection of faults and their severity based on physical interpretation and/or statistical characterisation of fault features
- Physical modelling of machines and faults (digital-twin), to support data-scarce situations, enable physics-based prognostics and increase robustness to varying operating conditions
- Maintenance decision support through diagnostic and prognostic tools (e.g., condition-based maintenance optimisation).
